The alternative? An online learning management system (LMS) developed by Tribal Habits; an innovative start-up that we have recently partnered with. Built to be easily accessible and brimming with engaging and useful collateral, the LMS can be customised to meet the needs of a specific client, including client branding and domain names.
Following successful field trials using the new LMS to support the rollout of our Enabling Safety workshops with a leading retailer of household goods in Australia, we can now successfully deploy a truly blended learning approach for participants. Using different mediums such as readings, video and podcast content, user interaction modules, and more, we can ‘super-charge’ the level of participant engagement, way beyond the usual expectations of a typical safety training session.
By incorporating the LMS into the Enabling Safety in-person workshops, participants can interact and give feedback via their smartphones, which is both easy and familiar to them, aligning with modern information-sharing habits such as social media and texting.
The real ‘killer’ feature developed on the back of the proven power of journaling to boost memory and comprehension, is the journal element that supports facilitator prompted moments for self-reflection during the learning process. This gives participants a ‘safe space’ in which to gather and record their thoughts, prompting deeper reflections and responses. So far, participant feedback has been amazing!
The key to bringing all of the various elements together is the handout system that we are calling Learning Bytes. Rather than the typical momento from a training course in the form of a 50+ page workbook, participants instead receive a brief outline of key topics supported by around fifteen Learning Bytes staggered throughout a given workshop. Each Learning Byte features a QR code, and thanks to COVID-19 even the biggest technophobes are comfortable using QR codes, participants are signposted to relevant modules and interactions including videos, podcasts, etc, during and post-workshop.
We are already looking to roll out additional features for the LMS in the future, fulfilling our obsession to create engaging content for our learning events that leave participants curious for more!
