about the course
Enabling Teams sees decision-making residing within the team itself, distributed among those who do the work, rather than authority residing in one person. Enabled Teams recognise their individual responsibility, as well as the collective responsibility of the unit - with accountability becoming evident in the commitments they make.
On the weakest teams, there is no accountability.
On mediocre teams, bosses are the source of accountability.
On high performing teams, peers manage the vast majority of performance problems with one another.
Traditional top down approaches to leadership and governance foster a culture of CYA with the flow-on effect impacting the frontline.
Those at the coalface will send all the right messages to leadership so that they can carry on and get their work done, doing their best to work within the parameters set by management. But when you give ownership to the team you give people the autonomy to be able to come up with better solutions.
