Design systems for the way work is done, not the way work is imagined

Learn how to create systems that are built for the needs of the people not for the needs of the system, understand the needs of your people and build the system for them as opposed to training your people in how to use a system built for the organization.

Work as Done: Designing a Human Centred Management Systems will equip you with the tools to build systems that are modular, scalable that never need to be re-explained - systems that enable learning and improvement.

Develop a clear view of what good looks like, figure out what people need where work is done and work back from that point instead of asking; What does the system need, what does the governance need, what does compliance need?

work as done, not work as imagined

If the people who rely on the system aren’t 100% sure what to do in a given situation and can't find the information quickly and easily, they'll make a decision without the information.

Work as Done is about designing management systems that enable people to make informed decisions.

This course is about learning from normal work and understanding what people need to successfully do their job, bringing systems to a user friendly place and removing bureaucratic accessibility barriers - having the right information at everyone's fingertips.

what will you learn?

Designing for the system vs Designing for people: learn how to balance Governance, Compliance and organisational needs with the needs of those doing the work.

Systems through personas

Many organisations are designing systems structured to exactly adhere to ISO 45001 or 9001 to best serve audit and compliance requirements. We understand that this does not reflect how people actually do the work.

So why design a system around a structure that benefits one person that comes in once a year once every five years to look at the system?

Not everyone will interact with your system’s information in the same way. Work as Done will teach you how to use persona mapping to experience systems from multiple perspectives and usage scenarios.

who is this for?

Senior Leaders - Looking to Influence the overall structure of the system to create the backbones that everything will fill into. Senior Leaders looking to encourage their team members to make information, easily, accessible and to encourage information sharing across departments to leverage siloed knowledge.

Operational Leaders / Line Managers - Looking to understand how their people access information and drive the content that makes the system work.

Safety Leaders - Equip yourself with human centred design and user experience tools that will shift you contribution to that of an enabler for your organisation.

Safety professionals who are interested in building resilience within their organisation through harnessing operational performance input from the frontline, designing systems that are less about bureaucratic accountability and more about creating and ensuring the safe conditions of work?
